Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell of UIIC, REVA University successfully organized Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp-1 from 11th to 13th Oct 2018 along with School of C&IT. The programme was funded by National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), under DST-NIMAT project of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India supported by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII).

The camp was formally inaugurated by our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. S.Y Kulkarni, REVA University on 11th October 2018. Resource persons Ms. Srividya Puppala, Co-Founder & CEO of Ensconce Business Process Pvt Ltd and Mr. Girish Batra, Founder Glocal Projects and author of book “Experiments in Leadership” were welcomed by Prof. Archana on behalf of REVA family. Dr. S.S Manvi, Director School of C&IT was present during the Inaugural function. Mr. Praveen H.J, Assistant Manager, UIIC introduced the guests to the participants.

The main objective of this Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp (EAC) is to create awareness among students of Engineering and Science courses about various facets of entrepreneurship as an alternative career option. The idea of organizing this workshop is to inculcate the fundamentals, key concepts of Entrepreneurship in the Science and Technology among students. The Three day camp concluded with a valedictory session and a humble vote of thanks.

The main attractions of the camp were as follows:

  • Successful Entrepreneurs were invited for expert lecture.
  • Practicing entrepreneur’s success stories – common problems faced by entrepreneurs was discussed.
  • Grant, funding and loaning from banks, agencies was discussed.
  • Improving communication skills (interacting with people) for better results was discussed.

Approximately about 120 students from School of C&IT successfully participated in the camp and each participant will be awarded a certificate. The camp was successfully coordinated by Mr. Praveen H.J, Assistant Manager, UIIC under the leadership and direction of Dr. Kiran Kumari Patil, Director, UIIC. IEDC Coordinators Dr. Ashwin kumar U M, Prof.Nikhil S Tengli, Prof. Ravishankar H, Prof. Raghavendra Nayaka, Prof. Lithin Kumble and UIIC team also contributed towards conducting the event successfully.

Day 1: 11th Oct 2018

Session 1:

The speaker of first session Ms. Srividya Puppala shared her entrepreneurship journey and emphasized the Importance of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The speaker talked about entrepreneurship basics and entrepreneurial traits. She spoke about her startup and challenges she faced as women entrepreneur.

Session 2:

Mr. Girish Batra, Entrepreneur, and Author of book “Experiments in Leadership” addressed the participants on topic “Creativity in Entrepreneurship”. The session was interactive and had fun learning concepts to make participants understand the importance of creativity and innovation. The students were shared examples of creative ideas and innovative products by startups.

Session 3:

Mr. Ramesh Kumar, CTO Eduquity addressed the students and spoke about available opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs. He shared his journey from Central Govt Employee to CTO of Eduquity. How sustainability plays a vital role in success of any Startup. The speaker used brainstorming method to make students to involve well in the camp.

Session 4:

Mr. Hitesh Devara, Co-Founder & CEO of Criador Labs Pvt Ltd addressed the participants. He spoke about how difficult it was for him to start his entrepreneurship journey. He stressed on leveraging on the opportunity identified and converting that into business model. He explained about the innovative projects being developed by his company. He also asked students to apply for internship projects in Startups rather than bigger companies. So that they can develop skills required.

Day 2: 12th Oct 2018

Session 1 and 2

Mr. Praveen H J, Assistant Manager, UIIC addressed the participants on starting a new venture and support systems available for entrepreneurs. He discussed the importance of various startups schemes launched by Govt. of India.

Session 3 & 4:

Mr. Priyadarshi, Founder Knowlexon addressed the participants & shared his entrepreneurial journey. He spoke about how Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are going to change the world in future. He also stressed students to equip skills in above domains along with IOT.

Day 3: 13th Oct 2018

Industry Visit:

An industrial visit to RRSC- South, ISRO was organised on Day 3 as part of EAC. RRSC – South: Regional Remote Sensing Centre, South is located in ISITE Campus, Karthik Nagar, Marathahalli Outer Ring Road, Bengaluru. RRSC, South primarily focuses on the Southern States viz. Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands in providing Remote Sensing (RS) & Geographical Information System (GIS) based solutions towards mapping and management of natural resources.

Prof. R. Hebbar, Principal Research Scientist, RRSC- South, ISRO, welcomed the gathering and guided the students with initial demo videos of basic need of satellite, its invention, different kinds with the evolutionary background, satellite preparation, rocket launch and explained the models of Earth Stations and different areas of image processing where ISRO is working on. He insisted students to become Entrepreneurs and provide job opportunities to others. He advised students to dream big and achieve the best possible of it. He also appreciated the initiative taken up by REVA University for introducing such visits for the young minds and nurturing their careers. Hence, the industrial visit to RRSC – South, ISRO enriched knowledge to both students and faculty in knowing more about Satellite communication and its Launching.

Session 3 & 4: Dr. Kiran Kumari Patil took session on communication skills and importance of elevator pitch. The camp ended with QA session and followed by Feedback session.
